Riddle Fence Building with Leslee Lake
Spend two days learning how to construct a traditional Newfoundland fence.
The riggle rod (wriggle, riddle, lear, roddle) fence is the most unique fence type found in Newfoundland history and it is very rare today. It is a combination of a longer fence and a picket fence and has obvious roots in the wattle fences of Medieval England. This fence was the most effective in creating a barrier to keep things in or out of an enclosure, and was economically practical because it does not require the use of nails. Remembering and reviving this skill will help ensure that it is not lost in time, and might offer an alternative that is environmentally safe and affordable.
Join noted landscaper Leslee Lake for a hands-on building experience. Leslee will demonstrate how to plan for a fence and prepare the ground, how to find and create the necessary materials, and how to construct the fence.
Cost: $250
