Our Calendar of Events

EHAC offers workshops and concerts each season, creating opportunities for artistic expression and skill development. Based on a curated mix of genres and popularity, and mindful of our superb acoustics, up and coming musicians are invited to perform in our extraordinary space. Workshops are offered whenever teaching professionals visit the Bight and express interest in sharing their craft. Or perhaps an artist in residence will offer a class. Every season is different. Have a look at this season's offerings.

In the 46 years since its founding, Oriana has continually aimed for excellence in performance. The choir has a strong focus on Canadian compositions, commissioning regularly to expand the choral repertoire for womens voices and to promote Canadian composers. Since Artistic Director Mitchell Pady joined Oriana in 2011, the choir has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including female folk group The OPears, the Juno-nominated Indo-funk trio Autorickshaw, jazz vocalist Debbie Fleming and an appearance with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2016 for Mahlers Third Symphony together with the women of Amadeus Choir and the Elmer Iseler Singers, and the Toronto Childrens Chorus. During Mitchells tenure the choir has benefited from an association with two composers-in-residence, Michael Sawarna and Matthew Emery, and has premiered many new Canadian and international works or arrangements. Oriana maintains a close relationship with honorary patron Ruth Watson Henderson, the renowned Canadian pianist and composer who has written music regularly for the choir, including a work premiered as recently as May 2017. Oriana aspires to tour regularly to promote high-calibre Canadian womens choral music, and after an appearance in Montreal in April 2018 the choir is looking forward to performing in July 2018 in Newfoundland including a concert at PODIUM, Choral Canadas biennial conference.

    Found Sound with Kate Lahey

    2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Absolutely no experience necessary. All are welcome! This is an opportunity to have some fun, share stories and learn something new.

Join multidisciplinary artist, Kate Lahey, at the English Harbour Arts Centre for an afternoon of making and collecting sounds. Exploring sounds in and around the English Harbour Arts Centre, we will find, make and record sounds together, this could be birds, waves, footsteps, creaking or conversation, it's up to us!

This afternoon will also include an opportunity to sit, talk and share stories and experiences about what sound means to you - maybe that's a story about a song that is important to you, a noise that characterizes your community, the sounds that remind you of someone, somewhere or something. All are welcome to come and try something new and to share their stories of what sounds are meaningful to them. You'll also get a chance to hear what Kate's been up to during her residency at the centre!
